Accommodations 101: Autism Spectrum Disorders

Hours: 1.5

This is the first in a series of ongoing workshop discussions conducted by Cathy Tremaria and Emily Wolinsky from Student Accessibility Services (SAS) NRG. SAS NRG sees the highest number of students on the Spectrum and because of this, SAS has put together quite a toolbox of strategies over the years. Using specific past examples of success, Tremaria and Wolinsky will share their tools for successful interactions with students on the Autism spectrum, and explain specific accommodations that are commonly given for students with this disability. Not only will resources be provided for use the classroom, but for staff-student interactions on campus as well. By the end of this session, all involved should leave with a better understanding of Autism Spectrum disorders and a few new tips and tricks of the trade for their own toolbox
