SS915: Mental Health First Aid Training

Hours: 8

THIS SESSION IS OPEN TO Prof-Tech and Classified Employees only. Join us for an informative 8 - hour curriculum course that teaches participants how to help people who are experiencing a crisis or mental health issue. Geared to educate the average person, this non-clinical course destigmatizes the common fears of the five major mental illnesses. Participants who complete the 8-hour certification course learn a five-step action plan (A.L.G.E.E.) encompassing the skills, resources, and knowledge to help an individual in crisis connect with appropriate professional, peer, social, and self-help care. This workshop offers interactive exercises & scenarios throughout the day in order to help participants feel more comfortable with knowing how to lead these difficult conversations surrounding mental illness. The workshop will include engaging videos and each participant gets to take home a manual that has all of the information that they went over throughout the day. Just as CPR and First Aid were designed to teach the public how to assist an injured person before professional medical treatment can be provided, so too does Mental Health First Aid teach the public key skills to assist someone who may be developing a mental health problem or crisis before professional treatment can be offered. At the end of the training you will be certified as a “Mental Health First Aider,” meaning that you have been provided with the knowledge to intervene and assist during mental health crises, and provided with the resources to connect the individual with professional help. Facilitators: Austin Travis County Integral Care (ATCIC) BREAKFAST AND LUNCH WILL BE PROVIDED
