TLED: Blackboard: Creating & Grading with Rubrics

Hours: 1

This workshop is part of the Remote Recess series.

Description:

Rubrics are a valuable tool for instructors to assess and grade students’ work in a consistent and impartial manner. Rubrics can assist a student with effectively organizing their materials so that they meet the criteria for a graded assessment. This workshop will demonstrate how to create a Rubric, associate it with gradable content, then assign a score based on the criteria provided.

Objectives:

  • Recognize the benefits for students whereby using rubrics can assist in submitting work that more effectively meets grading criteria.
  • Recognize the benefits for instructors who use rubrics, allowing for less subjectivity and greater impartiality with grading assessments.
  • Define various types of criteria and levels of achievement that can be implemented when creating rubrics.
  • Identify the gradable content where rubrics are applicable.
  • Determine best practices for when to make rubrics visible to students.
  • Identify where rubrics are located in an assessment and assign the appropriate level of achievement to a student’s work.
