Join me to learn about how the pandemic inspired me to think beyond proctored exams and test banks, to implementing meaningful and interesting assessments that had my students excited for their final assignment. The pandemic caused me to pause and think about what my students are learning, what was truly important and really would support their career goals while aligning with course objectives.
Instead I implemented alternative assignments, bringing in current events to have students demonstrate critical thinking, problem solving and leadership skills. Not only did my students enjoy learning but I did as well. This reinvigorated my teaching and made grading a bit more interesting for me too!

Michelle Fitzpatrick came to ACC almost 10 years ago from the Hospitality industry starting as the Department Chair of the Hospitality Programs. About 2 years ago Michelle transitioned to leading the Faculty Development team while still teaching in her discipline and maintaining close ties to industry liaisons. This role has given her the opportunity to learn more evidence based teaching practices and implement these into her classes to share back flops and successes with other faculty.
