SSD20: Create Multimedia Collections with Wakelet

Wakelet is a free web application that allows the user to save and organize content in a compelling way. The user-friendly interface creates beautiful multimedia "collections" that can be used in your department, classroom, or life in multiple ways. Students can create individual or collaborative collections to organize and present their research in an engaging way. Or Wakelet collections can enhance class lessons in interactive ways. It is both mobile and desktop-friendly making it an accessible technology to adopt for all levels of users. This workshop will start with a short demo and discussion of the platform, then have an interactive activity to showcase Wakelet's potential for collaboration in the classroom or workplace.

A participant walks away with:
  • Knowing how this free and user-friendly productivity tool can be utilized in a learner-centered classroom or the workplace
  • Create their first collection and collaborate with fellow attendees in a group Wakelet
  • A new and flexible tool for organization, creativity, and productivity
Presenter:

Lauren Watson is an Assistant Professor in the English Department and an English/Writing Tutor at the Riverside Learning Lab. Before returning to academia to earn her Master's Degree from Texas State University, she was a professional web designer and specialized in search engine optimization. Watson currently serves on the Publicity Committee for the Children's Literature Association, was a 2019-2020 ACC Digital Fellow, and is a Visiting Scholar to UT through the 2019-2020 Global Gender and Women's Studies Faculty Learning Community. Infusing and enhancing the classroom with technology is her passion. When not teaching, her academic research focuses on pop culture, comics, and children's media.
