SDD19: Bridging the Gap: Building Equitable Student Relationships

Hours: 1.33

This workshop is giving a minority student perspective of what professors / educators can do to support, understand, and assist students when it comes to advocacy, engagement, and leadership. Through community college every bridge you build as a student should be utilized for the betterment of one’s success both academically and professionally; this workshop emphasizes on this and pushes student-professor/educator relationships to the forefront of a student’s educational aspirations and a professors / educators classroom expectations and goals.

The knowledge of what needs to implemented in a classroom, college, or university to help build student rapport with their professors. Also, bringing light to what it means to be a minority (e.g; gay, transgender, non-binary, Black, Hispanic/LatinX, etc) will shed light on why minorities need a support system and why it is imperative that minorities have great rapport to be able to achieve and succeed in their environment; with that being said participants will leave being more culturally aware, culturally sensitive, and open-minded about safety in their classroom, colleges, and universities.
