SDD19: Alumni Employee Roundtable
Hours: 1.33
We recognize that our employees who are also former ACC students work hard and are naturally our most vocal ambassadors, so we want to keep you involved and explore deepening this relationship. This workshop will be an open discussion of the possible formation of an Alumni Employee Association. Working as an alumni employee means you are already giving a lot of your heart and soul to the college. You can be found in administrative offices to classrooms to public safety and ground crews, and you are devoted to ACC since you attended classes as students. You are around-the-clock, enthusiastic brand ambassadors who develop relationships on campus and off, strengthening ties between the institution and alumni, students, and the local community. This workshop will focus on exploring how to further ignite this passion and develop ideas together that will help our employees who are also former ACC students better support each other, share pride and excitement with other faculty and staff, and continue that ripple effect all the way to our students who will have a better experience and better engagement. If you believe this would benefit our alumni employees at ACC, please bring your ideas and join me for this preliminary discussion.
Benefits to participation include learning about opportunities to use alumni connections for professional development and career exploration within ACC, exploring our alumni connections for interdepartmental collaboration, and playing a role in forming an organization for alumni employees and former students who work at ACC. It will include a thoughtful discussion of the need for such an organization and explore opportunities to celebrate your ACC pride and how this has fueled your desire to build a career here.
Building community is the driving force behind MaryAnn Cicala’s experience. She joined the Austin Community College team in 2014 as the Director of Alumni. As the Director of Alumni Relations, MaryAnn has been charged with launching ACC’s Alumni Network. She provides leadership to ACC and the many volunteers that represent shared interest groups like the Nursing Alumni and Physical Therapy Assistant Alumni Chapters. She collaborates with various offices all over the district to produce special events designed to foster and maintain alumni pride and devotion. Prior to spending a decade working in development and alumni relations at her own alma mater, Emerson College in Boston, MA, Mary Ann worked for the Cambridge Arts Council, a public non-profit and city agency in Cambridge, MA that provides arts services and programming designed to stimulate public awareness of and support for the arts. She been on the teaching staff at the Harvard Extension School for Business and Organizational Oral Communication and she is a proud alumna of the 2018 Essentials Class for Leadership Austin, a flagship leadership program for the city, which brings together people committed to their community, provides a broader understanding of complex community issues, and teaches people how they can become more effective contributors to enacting change. When she’s not at ACC you can find her exploring the rich local music community or building stronger communities by planting trees throughout Central Texas with her wife and two step-children, Eliot and Sparrow. |
