SDD19: Students Ready to Learn: Chapter Preparation Assignments

Hours: 1.33

Learn more about an active learning strategy to help support students’ active reading skills and support transfer of knowledge from short term to long term memory. In this workshop we will discuss chapter preparation assignments. Each chapter preparation assignment is drawn from the chapter objectives and key takeaways to help direct the students’ identification of key concepts. These skills support their learning in current and future classes to identify important concepts in their readings, deepen their learning, and create engaged classroom discussion for student success.

A participant in this workshop will walk away with one strategy to support students’ active reading skills.

Dr. Barbara Orr has taught at ACC for the last three years at multiple campuses the EDUC-1300 Effective Learning Strategies course in the Student Development department. Barbara believes in creating a caring classroom environment matched with clear and high expectations for student success. She is committed to assist students to learn how to learn, support the acquisition of new perspectives for an open mind, and fuel their desire to reach their potential.
