SDD18: Keep Your Phones Out! “Screenager” Classroom Engagement Tactics
Hours: 1.3
In the digital age, where attention spans are more limited than ever, how can educators.
Engage and inspire students in their classrooms? Instead of working against technology, my research and experience show that integrating personal technology into the classroom can de-demonize apps such as Instagram and SnapChat by morphing them into learning tools. For example, students can participate in storytelling exercises, including lessons on literary devices, all within their free mobile apps. In this presentation, I will share the tools and tactics that excite and engage students in the college classroom, as well as analyze how the outcomes were impacted. Audience participation exercises will be included, so bring your mobile phone!
Ideas for mobile/digital engagement activities, current industry trends on mobile app usage in college students, instruction on how to use certain apps such as SnapChat in the classroom.
