SSD17: More Google Classroom with Seamless Assignments, Grading, and Communication

In this workshop, faculty will experience Google Classroom from a student's point of view and then practice setting up their own Google classroom for making announcements, posting and grading assignments, "flipping" their classroom, and providing a communications stream for their students. This paperless, seamless process works through ACC's Google Apps for Education and the students' ACC Gmail. Google Classroom for HOME will also be discussed.
Due to our Gmail infrastructure, the system known as Google Classroom allows professors to make announcement, assignments, grade assignments, pose questions and even have an online discussion with their students, accessed directly from the student's Gmail. This tool enhances communication, planning, record keeping and class organization. Faculty will leave the workshop having created their first google class and posting their first announcement.
Dr. Herb Coleman is an adjunct professor of psychology and retiring Director of Campus Technology Services. He has taught psychology at Austin Community College for over 25 years. In his role as Director of Campus Technology Services, he assists faculty in obtaining, learning and using technology to enhance instruction. As a faculty member, Dr. Coleman uses technology from clickers and podcasts to Google Classroom and social networking in his classrooms. As Director, he has trained faculty in using technology such as Skype, Twitter, YouTube, computer classroom control software and iPods to iPads in instruction. He also frequently leads discussions on copyright, appropriate use of technology and computer ethics. |
