SDD17: Using Metacognition to Enhance Student Learning

Hours: 1.25

Students learn numerous cognitive strategies throughout K-16; however often they are not able to apply those strategies to the material they are studying. Although the main focus of the workshop will be on increasing reading performance using metacognitive skills, participants will become aware of the importance of metacognition in many fields to help students enhance their understanding of their coursework and better their class performance.

A participant in this workshop will walk away with:

• An increased knowledge of metagcognition
• A better understanding of how to use metacognition in the classroom
• Practical examples of how to use metacognition to enhance students learning
