SDD17: Forming a Women's Faculty Association - An Exploratory Workshop

Hours: 1.25

This workshop will be an open discussion of the possible formation of a Women's Faculty Association on campus. Many colleges and universities have an organization for women faculty to discuss and act on the unique issues and challenges facing women on campus. If you believe this would benefit women at ACC please bring your ideas and join me for this preliminary discussion.

Benefits to participation include a role in forming an advocacy organization for women on campus and will include a thoughtful discussion of the need for such an organization.

Dawn’s interest in working towards equity and representation of all women at the organizational levels of culture is life long. She has taught sociology at ACC for the last 10 years, and has consistently taught in the discipline for twenty years in both Texas and New York. Her emphasis as a sociologist is in race, class and gender equity; inclusive of intersections and with a humanist approach. She has held both academic and organizational positions within groups that seek equity in these areas and she is a graduate of a women's college and an advocate for the intellectual emancipation of women in a patriarchal culture. She would like to see more programming directed at the unique position of women in society and more of emphasis on women's resources for our students, staff and faculty. She would also like to see a diversity of women involved and successful at every level of ACC's culture. Her only role with this effort is to start a conversation.
