There are a number of recent OCR rulings that raise compliance concerns about some common accommodation practices that many institutions use. We will discuss those rulings in detail and highlight those practices that may require modification in light of some administrative procedures that have failed to survive the close scrutiny of the federal enforcement agencies. Topics that will be discussed include: • Voluntary Note-taking…Should institutions continue to offer such services? • Offering test accommodations in a testing center or the disability services office… What are the practices and procedures that have been judged to be unduly burdensome or discriminatory for students with disabilities? • Alternative format practices …What delivery methods and procedures have been found to equal discrimination? • Student disagreements and faculty disputes…Does your institution have the proper procedures in place to manage these situations?
