SDD16: Understanding the Basics of Working with Students with Disabilities

Hours: 1.5

Objective: The objective of this workshop is to understand the basic procedures of Student Accessibility Services (SAS) and to help faculty understand their rights and responsibilities when working with students with disabilities.

Participants in this workshop will learn the basics of disability and accessibility services, including procedures for students and faculty to use to meet ADA , as amended, and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended, requirements. Participants will have a chance to solve typical classroom issues using real-life scenarios and to ask questions regarding how to work with students with disabilities in the classroom.

Steve Christopher is the Executive Director of Special Populations and ACC's ADA Compliance Officer.

Lauren Sebel is the Student Accessibility Services Coordinator II at the Highland Campus and is currently completing her dissertation for a Doctorate in Education in Higher Ed Administration with a Community College emphasis.
