SDD16: Infusing a Global Perspective into Your Classroom

Hours: 1.5

Objective: This workshop will be a discussion with ACC faculty and UT's Hemispheres group to determine how we can work together to create a collaborative program between both schools to bring global issues and internationalization into college level classes.

The University of Texas Hemispheres group is an interdisciplinary international outreach consortium. Hemispheres goal is to support educators in infusing global perspectives in their classes by increasing knowledge and understanding of diverse world regions.

The Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning at ACC is partnering with ACC's International Programs and UT's Hemispheres to explore ways in which UT can support faculty development at ACC.

If you are a faculty member who would like to help shape professional development opportunities aimed at enabling faculty to bring a more international approach to their courses, this workshop is for you! We'll determine what topics appeal most to ACC faculty for future professional development opportunities. We'll also provide an opportunity for faculty at the session to share how they are already incorporating an understanding of international issues in their classes.

Regardless of what you teach, you CAN bring global issues into your classroom. If you'd like to learn how, and if you would like to guide the efforts of the team working on supporting ACC faculty in this endeavor, please join us!

Lunch will be provided at this event, so if you have dietary restrictions, please email mpatters@austincc.edu to ensure that we have the right food for you.

This workshop is limited to 20 faculty. Please come ready to discuss your views on globalization of curricula, and your wishlist for future development opportunities.

She is currently serving as the Assistant Dean of Faculty Development, leading the creation and operation of the Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning (FCTL). She's a passionate believer in the idea that faculty can enrich their teaching simply by taking the time to collaborate with and learn from their colleagues.
