SDD16: Learning as a Skill: Knowing vs. Doing

Hours: 1.5

Objective: Learn about the distinction between declarative and procedural processes in building new skills, how they relate to our students becoming stronger learners, and how it could impact how we help students learn better.

In this workshop we will discuss the components involved in developing new skills, with a focus on study skills and strategies. The purpose is to engage faculty in a discussion about how we can help our students become stronger learners.

Helena Kopecky is a third-year adjunct instructor in Psychology and Student Development. She came to ACC with over 10 years of experience in college mental health. She loves working with students and is passionate about helping them become stronger learners.
