SDD16: Successful Communication for Successful Teams
Hours: 1.5
Objective:
1. Identify what role your communication plays in a group.
2. Recognize the effects your communication has on the group.
3. Define synergy.
4. Describe how to achieve synergy.
5. Diagnose barriers to synergy.
This workshop is perfect for any individual that works in a team environment and wants to improve the communication within the team. Participants will identify the key communication roles necessary for a team to function properly, including task roles and social roles. Barriers to fluid communication will also be examined including dysfunctional communication roles. Attendees will learn the communication formula for getting a group to thrive and experience synergy. Overall, participants will leave the workshop with a new insight into their own communication skills and the ability to propel their team forward.
Theresa Glenn has been a member of the Austin Community College faculty since the summer of 2001. She brings 23 years of experience in corporate training, human communication, and adult education to the classroom. As a professional trainer and course author she specializes in adapting effective communication skills to the corporate culture. Prior to joining the ACC Speech Department, where she serves as department chair, she worked for the Texas State Auditor's Office. Ms. Glenn received her undergraduate degrees in Communication & Political Science from East Texas State University and a M.A. in Communication Studies from the University of North Texas. She received her Human Performance Improvement certification from University of Texas Continuing Education division. She has presented her work to the National State Auditor's Association, American Red Cross, Leukemia Society of America, Texas Education Agency, DHHS, Office of Inspector General and other state organizations. |
