SDD15: From Combat to College - Helping our Wounded Warriors Transition to College

Hours: 1.5

Wounded Warriors, particularly those with post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and traumatic brain injury (TBI) are returning to higher education from combat at a very fast rate. This workshop will help faculty and staff gain a better understanding of what these student veterans are dealing with as they transition from soldier to student. Presentation will include information on PTSD/TBI, how these diagnoses effect students in the classroom, and classroom accommodations that are appropriate to level the playing field for this growing student population.

Lauren Sebel has been with ACC's Student Accessibility Services since 2007 and is currently the SAS Coordinator II at the Highland Campus. She will complete her doctorate in Higher Education Administration with a community college emphasis at the end of this year and is writing her dissertation on effective accommodations for student veterans with PTSD and/or TBI.
