Mind-mapping for FOLA Instructors: How to Help Your Students Master Vocabulary and Prepare to Speak or Write Without Translating

In this workshop, Merry Wheaton will: explain the principles behind mind-mapping and its benefit to students show us what makes a good mind map give us three mind mapsone the U.N. developed to guide people writing reports, one she developed to guide for Spanish 1511 students doing an oral presentation, and one to help students in Spanish 1512 master reflexive verbs Then we will: practice mind-mapping and share our experience brainstorm applications for FOLA students work in teams by course or language to develop (a) starter mind maps for students to help them learn the vocabulary of specific units, (b) model mind maps for particular oral presentation or writing Please bring your textbooks and, if possible, a variety of colored markers! You may also want to bring any directions you have already prepared for students' oral presentations or written assignments.
