GA14: Wolframs Mathematica as a Lecture Management and Publishing Powerhouse
Hours: 3
You probably think of Wolfram's Mathematica and the more recent addition of Wolfram Alpha as powerful engines for calculation, analysis, data retrieval, and manipulation. But Mathematica simultaneously is becoming a word processing and publishing powerhouse. Entire books are being written using Mathematica!) And Mathematica has become an ideal lecture management tool.
Participants will learn to use Mathematica's publishing capabilities to create and use dynamic lecture notes in their classes. This hands-on workshop will include principles, practice, and drill.
Lecture management with Mathematica includes creation of a PowerPoint-like display to:
-Summarize the day's goals
-Display a principle
-Launch a different program containing more information (why throw away last year's PPT slides?)
-Click a button to open another application
This is not about calculating (though simple calculating will be included.) Anybody drawing from widely disparate sources for display during presentations will benefit --English, Psych, Econ, Geography, History, Nursing, Business....even mathematicians and logicians are invited! |
