SDD14: How can Intellectual Virtue Help Students be Good Learners and Thinkers?

Hours: 1.5

What are the character traits of good thinkers and good learners? What can instructors do to cultivate intellectual virtues conducive to authentic learning and the technical aspects of critical thinking? During this session we will explore these questions relative to some original dramatic videos I have created as part of my sabbatical project on intellectual virtue in the college context. Insights about intellectual virtue and details about four kinds of said virtue will be integrated into the discussion.

We end the session with a quick review of five mini-modules I have created to assist instructors and students with intellectual virtue. The topic and modules are relevant to all subjects and they are designed to be super-interactive for all levels of learners. Come discuss, share, and if moved to do so, sign up to get on my list of first-users spring 2014! I look forward to interacting with you and sharing my intellectual passion!
