Session 1: Sustaining the Courage to Teach by Cindy Johnson (founding director of Courage & Renewal) Cindy will guide participants in the exploration of Sustaining the Courage to Teach in her workshop at the Student Success Summit. We often ask the what, how and why of teaching but seldom do we ask the who question. Who is the self that teaches? Building on the Courage to Teach model (We Teach Who We Are) pioneered by author Parker Palmer.
Session 2: "Creating Transformative Learning Environments for Student Success" by Melinda Rothouse. Drawing inspiration from the fields of coaching, positive psychology, asset-based learning, and creativity studies, this workshop shows how faculty, staff, and administrators can foster student success through our interactions with ALL students. Learn how you can evoke transformation in every student you encounter in this interactive, experiential session.

Towards Us and Us: Creating shared worlds and understandings on the road to Multicultural Equity and New Possibilities
Often, discussions of diversity, equity, and multicultural competence leave us feeling guilty, defensive, hopeless and confused. In this lively and engaging talk, Dr. Ramos Duffer will lead us through an exploration of the underpinnings of racial misunderstandings and the latest research on the formation and effects of prejudice, as we identify strategies to dismantle unintended barriers in the classroom. Together we will weave together the best that research, theory and experience has to offer to equip faculty and staff with specific useable tools to create vibrant learning environments that are enriched by differences, in which every student is fully supported in thriving and excelling. |
