Military Culture 101: Military Socialization and its Implication for the Classroom

Join Jeff Moe, LMSW, as he speaks from his own experience as a US Army Paratrooper, student veteran, and social worker about military culture and its implications for the academic environment. After attending this session, attendees will be able to recognize the key elements of military socialization as well as the strengths and challenges that is poses for the academic environment. Additionally, they will become aware of the diversity that is present within the military and develop tools to avoid stereotyping individual veterans. Presenter: Jeff Moe, LMSW works for the US Department of Veterans Affairs as the Student Veteran Outreach Coordinator at UT Austin. Jeff served for seven years in US Army, deploying to Afghanistan with the 82nd Airborne Division and later to Iraq with 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne).
