Writing in the Disciplines

Hours: 3

re you flipping your course, or are you thinking of putting more active learning into your classrooms? Do you or have you ever had a Deaf or Hard of Hearing (D/HH) student in your classroom? See what we are learning from our D/HH about how to improve your teaching effectiveness by using writing as a tool for learning. Turn your writing assignments, especially those lab reports in STEM courses, into a process for your students to master challenging topics and ideas. And use ACC resources to help you and your students to streamline this process. This workshop is designed to help faculty to adapt their teaching style to foster better learning for our diverse student population, especially ESL and D/HH students, but in a way that benefits all students. This workshop is a part of the NSF-sponsored DeafTek project, based in Rochester Institute of Technologys National Technical Institute for the Deaf, where these approaches have been tested in STEM courses. Lunch will be provided.
