SS: Mental Health First Aid Training
Hours: 6
| Just as CPR and first aid are intended to help an injured person before
proper medical treatment can be provided and are performed by a
non-medical professional, Mental Health First Aid is designed to teach
the public key skills to help someone developing a mental health problem
or crisis.Integral Care is proud to offer Mental Health First Aid training to the
Austin Travis County community. This public education program provides
information that will help participants identify, understand and respond
to signs of mental illnesses and chemical dependency disorders. Training
is offered as an interactive 12-hour course on the following:
●Mental illnesses and associated disorders,
●Risk factors and warning signs related to mental health,
●The impact of mental illnesses to families and communities, and
●An overview of common treatment approaches
Participants who complete the 12-hour certification course learn a
five-step action plan encompassing the skills, resources and knowledge
to help an individual in crisis connect with appropriate professional,
peer, social, and self-help care. Presenter: Kathleen Casey, Coordinator for Disaster Mental Health Preparedness and Response |
