QEP: Making Horses Thirsty: Understanding Motivation to Learn

Hours: 1.25

Making Horses Thirsty: Understanding Motivation to Learn You can lead a horse to water, but you cant make it drink. Sometimes we repeat this old saying when we feel our students are not motivated to learn despite our best efforts. Is it true? Does everybody have a set level of motivation? Can you motivate someone else? We will explore classroom‐practical answers to these questions based on contemporary research on motivation. This workshop is part of ACC's QEP and is offered as an annual speaker series to enhance faculty skills. This year's symposium is brought to ACC by Cengage Learning, Faculty Development and the QEP Leadership Team. The workshop presenter, Clayton Austin, has masters degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of North Florida, where he found his niche in educational psychology and received the prestigious J. Hillis Miller Presidential Fellowship from the University of Florida to pursue a doctoral degree in this field.
