The Role of Belief, Hope, Determination & Confidence in Student Achievement
Hours: 1.5
| Belief, hope, determination and confidence provide the bedrock for life-long learning, and for enabling learning trajectories to move from good to better to best. Belief plays a primary role in facilitating achievement and self-actualization. Belief animates hope, which neuroscience research has suggested plays an authentic biological role in health and learning. Recent research has also indicated that hope accounts for one third of the variance of student success -- that is a good predictor of student success than SAT scores, ACT scores or grade point average. Determination leads to sustained effort which can lead to a "growth mindset" rather than a fixed one. Resilience, perseverance and 10,000 hours of guided effort can lead to expertise in desired fields of application. Each person has unique talents. Learning focused on strengths reaps the largest gains in learning and work. And when students and people are valued and challenged, they are likely to succeed. Confidence may lead to self-discovery, initiative and the ultimate goal of life-long learning. If you need a sign language interpreter or other accommodations,contactaint@austincc.eduor 512-223-6151.
