Motivating the Young Adult Learner: Student Engagement Strategies and the Young Adult Mind

Making a class interesting and interactive is always a challenge, but with early college start bringing in younger students, this challenge becomes a necessity. In this session we will explore how to motivate young adults and encourage a positive attitude towards learning. Participants will leave with an understanding of the criteria necessary to make a learning activity engaging. Abby McCone, M.Ed. and Rosie Oliveira, M.Ed. Abby McCone has been in the educational system in Texas for 35 years and has spent the last 20 years training teachers and administrators on student engagement strategies and teaching leadership techniques. She is a certified trainer of Instructional Leadership and the Professional Development and Assessment System with SMU. Rosie Oliveira has been in the field of education for 33 years and specializes in motivational strategies for at-risk students. She has worked as a Principal, a Dean of Instruction, and has taught at both the community college and high school level. She has also been a trainer for the National Institute of School Leadership.
