SSSS: The Impact of Domestic Violence: What every educator should know

Hours: 2

Domestic violence is sometimes defined as a pattern of assaultive and coercive behaviors used against one member of a domestic partnership to maintain power and control over the other. In most cases the victim of domestic violence is a woman. In fact, about every 9 seconds a woman is assaulted or beaten by their intimate partner in the United States of America. In this workshop you will learn what domestic violence is, more about its scope, and what you can do to help end the violence. ************************************************ Learning Outcome(s): After attending this workshop ACC faculty and staff will understand the scope of the problem of domestic violence (DV), be able to recognize the signs and symptoms of DV, and make appropriate referrals to an ACC Counselor or local domestic violence agency. ****************************** Presenter: Tammy Hartley has been providing direct services to victims of domestic violence since 1995. She has served on the Executive Board of Directors for the NC Coalition Against Domestic Violence and on the DELTA PREP National Leadership Committee. Currently, Ms. Hartley is a Program Director with the Womens Independence Scholarship Program, Inc. where she assists survivors of domestic violence with attending school.
