Rather than expecting newly admitted college students to conform to the institutional culture, how can the campus instead meet the unique needs of its students, especially those who have the least social capital and academic preparation? This workshop examines practical strategies by faculty and staff to increase student success. After attending this webinar, participants will: a. Understand the current status of developmental education and predicted future trends; b. Increase awareness of new innovations in college credit and non-credit approaches to serving students involved with developmental education; c. Learn several new ideas how to increase advisor effectiveness with serving students involved in developmental education programs; and d. Discover new models for bringing the campus community of faculty and staff together to increase academic success of students. Presenter: David Arendale, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Postsecondary Teaching and Learning at UMN and Co-Director of the Jandris Center for Innovative Higher Education.
