SSSS: Identifying, Understanding, and Managing Developmental Disabilities in a Community College Setting

Workshop Abstract: Students with developmental disabilities may face challenges in the college environment. Faculty and staff often ask for guidance in how to best support these students educational success. Disability experts from the College Living Experience will present up-to-date information about working with developmentally disabled college students. Format will be lecture as well as question and answer sessions. Learning Outcome(s) Participants will understand what developmental disabilities are and how to identify them in a classroom setting. Have a general knowledge of HIPPA laws, privacy and what can and cannot be done to implement appropriate accommodations. Participants will lean specific strategies to employ in the classroom to optimize the environment for all students. Presenters: Michelle Beffi & Marie Waitt
