Using Technology for Teaching and Learning Culture

Hours: 2.5

This workshop will focus on a variety of technology resources for the exploration and presentation of culture in the language classroom. These authentic materials will ensure the active engagement of students in culture learning. Faculty will have access to all the materials presented in the workshop for use in their classrooms. Hand outs and CDs will also be given to each participant. The resources presented are applicable or adaptable to any teaching modality (face to face, hybrid/blended, on-line). Preview and follow-up activities will the presented. These are some of the resources that will be shared at the workshop: Use of authentic online sites (Preview and Follow-up activities) Youtube - stories and songs On-line photographs Cultural Powerpoints Cultural online Scavenger Hunt Cultural Videos (Flash cultura), commercials, and countries Cultural videos (from Vista Higher Learning supersite) All the material presented will be for Spanish classes, but the workshop could be applicable for other languages.
