SSD21: Supporting Online High-Risk Courses
Hours: 1
Austin Community College (ACC) was awarded a Department of Education Title V, InFocus grant in October 2021. Over the next five years, the InFocus grant will help the college achieve continued enrollment growth by strengthening online student advising, embedded tutoring, and curriculum redesign support in the college’s 14 online high-risk courses (OHRCs). OHRCs are defined as those ACC courses that have less than a 70% completion rate by the students who enroll in them each semester.
Participants who attend this workshop will be introduced to the Title V InFocus resources available to faculty and students. Additionally, participants will be provided a progress report on Title V InFocus grant priorities for year one related to the following grant objectives.
- Provide targeted, evidence-based, intensive advising support to struggling Latinx students in OHRCs.
- Expand infrastructure to offer embedded tutoring services to students enrolled in OHRCs.
- Enrich learning in OHRCs by training distance education faculty to employ the nationally recognized Quality Matters (QM) standards and certify all OHRCs via the official QM peer review certification process.
Lastly, faculty will learn how to request an embedded tutor be enrolled in online courses, how Title V distance education advisors will provide support for all Latinx students enrolled in OHRCs, and how to request support to pursue a National QM certification for their OHRCs.
