SSD21: Beyond the Reading Quiz: Using Perusall to Transform Students' Engagement with Course Texts
Hours: 1
Are you tired of class discussions that mostly involve you staring into the Zoom void? Feeling like your students could do so much better if they would just do the reading? In this workshop, participants will learn how to use Perusall, a free online annotation application, allows professors to upload or purchase course readings and collect students' comments all together in one spot. Further, students can review and respond to your and other student's comments. Participants will leave this session with an understanding of what Perusall can do and how it can encourage students to engage with their course reading materials, promote class participation, develop students' active reading strategies, and create a stronger classroom community.
About the Presenter(s):
Alex Watkins is an adjunct professor in the Composition and Literary Studies department at ACC. Her research interests include writing program administration, multilingual pedagogy, and digital literacy.
