SSD21: Access is EVERYONE'S Responsibility - Even YOURS!
Hours: 1
Providing equal access to ACC students is the responsibility of everyone at the college - not just that of Student Accessibility or Interpreter Services. Access takes on many forms from accessible texts to captioning all media and even assessments.
Participants will learn how to provide equal access to the most number of students, regardless of their abilities (Universal Design), and how to provide accommodations to ensure students with disabilities have a level playing field from day one of a new semester.
About the Presenter(s):
Dr. Lauren Sebel has been at ACC for 14 years, all in Student Accessibility Services at Riverside, Round Rock and Highland. She has a BS in Rehabilitation Service from UT Southwestern Medical Center, a masters in Rehabilitation Counseling from UT-Austin and got her doctorate in Higher Education Administration from Texas Tech. She's been in the disability "business" for more than 25 years. Her mission for the next year is to make sure that faculty know their responsibilities when it comes to accessibility (for all students) and working with students with disabilities in particular.
Accessibility is everyone's responsibility!
Equity is not an option. Like breathing, it is required. Let's do it right!
