SDD21: Classroom Management: Preventive Strategies and Practical Solutions

Consistently establishing and managing student expectations and behaviors to ensure a productive learning environment are among the most critical issues faced by both novice and experienced faculty members. In this session, we will move beyond identification of classroom problems and suggest preventative strategies and practical solutions to the most common classroom management problems.

A participant in this workshop will walk away with a deeper understanding of:
  • Setting the Classroom Atmosphere & Tone
  • Managing Tempo and Time
  • Making Connections: Student-to-Student
  • Helping Students Learn to Be College Students


    • Presenter(s):

    Chelsea Biggerstaff is a seasoned education professional with a Bachelor's in Visual Art Education and a Master's in Communication Studies. She devoted 2 years to National Service through AmeriCorps. After serving, Chelsea accepted a position at Skillpoint Alliance where she dedicated the next 3 years developing professional development programs. Chelsea’s background in education and passion drew her to Austin Community College. Currently, Chelsea is a Faculty Development Coordinator where she is using her creativity, educational background and positive spirit to inspire and learn from the hardworking faculty at Austin Community College.
