Austin Community College’s new semester-long faculty onboarding program delivers a 3-day orientation and monthly sessions to launch new faculty into a successful career. Learn details about the development, data, and lessons learned. Participants will discuss ways to improve their onboarding process and hear faculty testimonials.

Participants will:

Review a successful Orientation & Onboarding program
Identify key stakeholders that can contribute to your success
Develop a plan to improve your onboarding processes
Discuss challenges and potential solutions

Presenter(s):

Michelle Fitzpatrick came to ACC almost 10 years ago from the Hospitality industry starting as the Department Chair of the Hospitality Programs. About 2 years ago Michelle transitioned to leading the Faculty Development team while still teaching in her discipline and maintaining close ties to industry liaisons. This role has given her the opportunity to learn more evidence based teaching practices and implement these into her classes to share back flops and successes with other faculty.

Chelsea Biggerstaff is a seasoned education professional with a Bachelor's in Visual Art Education and a Master's in Communication Studies. She devoted 2 years to National Service through AmeriCorps. After serving, Chelsea accepted a position at Skillpoint Alliance where she dedicated the next 3 years developing professional development programs. Chelsea’s background in education and passion drew her to Austin Community College. Currently, Chelsea is a Faculty Development Coordinator where she is using her creativity, educational background and positive spirit to inspire and learn from the hardworking faculty at Austin Community College.
