SDD21: Best COMMUNICATION Practices for Online Student Engagement
Hours: 1
Using breakout rooms, icebreakers, activities, and think-pair-share, participants will explore the best ways for students to interact with each other, the course content, and the instructor. Active engagement strategies such as building in daily interactions with other classmates using video platforms help to create a strong sense of community in the online courses. Learn how to transform the flat weekly discussion board assignment into a dynamic and visually enticing opportunity to see and interact with other students in weekly video projects that are faster to grade. Whether your class is asynchronous or synchronous, you don’t want to miss these student-centered best practices!
A participant walks away with:
- Understanding several proven communication strategies that will increase engagement with their students. Among the topics will be the importance of interaction using video for student-to-student and teacher-to-student communication. Additionally, we will discuss student-centered techniques for consistency in messages’ frequency and timing to your students.
