SDD21: ‘Any Questions?’: A New Way of Elevating Student Curiosity

We constantly encourage students to ask questions, but we rarely — if ever — pause to teach them how. This presentation explores why we should. We’ll look at current research to discover how we can help students verbalize their innate curiosity, and why this might be the most important thing we ever do as educators.
A participant walks away with:
- A short lesson plan, called "The Celebrity Interview," designed to teach students the art of inquiry. This can be used either remotely or in-person.
Presenter(s):
Elizabeth Standley works in ACC’s Office of Communications and Marketing, where she spends a lot of time thinking about how to capture attention and stimulate interest. She holds a master’s in English from The University of Texas at Arlington, where she was — among other things — an adjunct professor. She has taught ESOL, women’s and gender studies, and English composition. She was also a magazine journalist, but that’s another story...
