SDD21: Ownership of Equity: Is Your Vision Really 2020?
Hours: 2.25
This session is designed for faculty (or anyone!) who believe, “I don't need equity training; I treat everyone the same.” The focus will be on how people can improve awareness and understanding of racial inequities by examining their perspectives about race, and hearing those of others. Audience members will consider prompts individually and in small groups. We will learn why it's NOT OK to ignore race, and we will discuss strategies to improve racial equity, both in and out of the classroom.
A participant walks away with:
- A new (or renewed) appreciation of how important racial equity work is
- Seeing how it starts with personal introspection and grows through courageous conversations with others
