SDD21: Digital Escape Rooms as a form of Alternative Assessment
Hours: 2.25
Digital escape rooms are a way of having students work independently or in groups to solve queries and find clues to "escape" the room. This is a fun and challenging way to present and check for understanding of constructs. We discuss the application; experience a simple one; then show how to build your own along with resources and other examples.
Participants will:
- Participate in a mini escape room and see several examples of the types of presentation and questions that can be asked. We will also brainstorm ideas on application of this learning tool.
Presenter(s):
Dr. Herb Coleman is a technologist and college professor, with 30 plus years of classroom instruction and implementation of technology to support instruction. Retired as Director of Classroom Technology Services, Herb continues to teach and research instruction and technology as well as train faculty in the use of educational technology. Herb teaches face to face as well as online including remote learning. Herb has presented at national conferences on Clickers, Team-Based Learning, Digital Signage, VR in the Classroom, and Google Classroom. Herb is an affiliate member of the American Psychological Association, a member of TCEA, ISTE, CCUMC, the Dell North American Consumer Advisory Council, and the Team-Based Learning Collaborative. Herb is also a Plicker Ambassador and TCEA Google Certified.
