SDD21: What Students Are Saying About Remote Learning: Using ACC Student Feedback to Enhance the Distance Education Experience

Hours: 1

As completion counselors, we are uniquely positioned to hear what students really think about remote learning during our academic counseling sessions. Additionally, as instructors, we understand the challenges that faculty face in delivering their courses online. We will share anonymized feedback from ACC students about their distance learning experience as well as easy-to-implement strategies to enhance student engagement and persistence. Topics will include course structure, use of technology, and ways to build community in your online classroom. There will also be opportunity for Q&A and consultation.

A participant walks away with:

  • An understanding of key factors that affect student engagement in an online learning environment
  • Actionable strategies to implement in a virtual classroom to enhance student success

She has special interests in perfectionism, social anxiety, women’s and LGBT+ issues, wellness programming, and training. She recently developed a positive psychology-based toolkit to help students persist in school with a focus on self-compassion, grit and hope, gratitude, and self-care.

Sarah received a Bachelor of Arts degree with Honors in Sociology and Feminist Studies as well as a Master of Arts degree in Sociology from Stanford University. She worked as a management consultant and a career counseling center director prior to earning a second Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology, a Certificate in College & University Teaching, and a Ph.D. in Counseling/Clinical/School Psychology at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
