Presenter(s):
Latisha Addison has worked in higher education for 17 years at a number of institutions to include proprietary, 4-year university and now 2-year community college. Since working in higher education, she has been a member of many committees which have focused on creating an environment for students to successfully complete their educational endeavors. In addition, while working at a 4-year university which was considered to be an HBCU, she developed a financial literacy program which included a peer mentor program aimed to help students from low socioeconomic backgrounds become financial literate. Previously working for a loan servicer has allowed her to gain knowledge in the student loan industry that would qualify her as an expert in her field. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Columbia Southern University, a Masters degree in Management and Leadership from Tarleton State University and is currently completing her dissertation to complete her Doctorate of Education in Organizational Leadership in Higher Education from Abilene Christian University.
Jessica Oest is an Area of Study Specialist (Academic Advisor) at ACC. She has been with ACC for 4 years, previously in the Financial Aid department. Jessica has over 8 years of higher education experience. She earned both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in English from Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona. Her experience at Arizona State University provided the platform to recognize that education, awareness, and resilience are key to advocating for students, faculty, and staff from all backgrounds. Jessica continued that endeavor when she moved to Austin in 2010, volunteering with LifeWorks as an adult education instructor and a mentor for ACC students. Additionally, she worked for a local non-profit whose focus is to empower individuals and families in the community with the tools to work towards healthier decision-making, financial stability, and educational success. In addition to her role at ACC, Jessica collaborates in other areas at ACC through research, committees, student mentoring, and outreach to better serve both her colleagues and students in their academic or professional journey.
Jonathan Gladney is a Senior Area of Study Advising Specialist here at ACC. He’s been with the college for 7 years, starting off in 2014 with Admissions and Records and making the transition in 2018 into Student Affairs. He started his work in higher education during his undergraduate experience, working several campus jobs including positions within Residence Life and as a Student Involvement Coordinator in the Student Center. This is where he realized he had a spark for working with students and wanted to further explore his options. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from the University of Wisconsin Whitewater and went on to work with Americorps Vista and State programs which brought him to Texas to work with College Forward, here he really locked in and set his paths for working in the realm of higher education. After his term of service was completed in 2014 he started at ACC and Admissions and Records. In an effort to better support the student populations he later earned his Master’s degree in Educational Leadership with a focus in Higher Education from the University of Texas at San Antonio. Through this program and opportunities within ACC he was able to channel his passion for supporting student success and moved into Student Affairs as an Academic Advisor.
