SDD21: Assess Your Assessment: Designing Meaningful Assessments

Hours: 1

As a teacher, one of your most effective agents of change is assessment. Learn how to create and use assessments that properly align with student learning outcomes, accurately reflect intended goals, and optimally measure student performance.

A participant walks away with:

  • How to construct and assess assessments based on student learning outcomes in all four content areas of ESL instruction: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
  • Design and evaluate a mini-assessment in groups.
  • Finally, they will obtain a general assessment tool to use for their own teaching.

Presenter(s):

Lauren Miller is an ESL instructor with over nine years of experience in adult education and intensive English programs. She has taught all levels of English instruction, in addition to an American Culture course. She also has worked with curriculum design and pedagogical techniques for both students and instructors. She serves on the board of TexTESOL III and is currently working on her dissertation for a PhD in Culture, Literacy and Language, focusing on adult education and language policy.

This workshop will be held online during Spring Development Day. To access the workshop, go to the Spring Development Day webpage and click the "Connect" button on the day of the conference.
