SDD20: What do Students Want? Improving Student Engagement by Using Survey Data

Hours: 1.5

The presentation will review the most recent results of the Community College Survey of Student Engagement (CCSSE) and Survey of Entering Student Engagement (SENSE) surveys, and how to best utilize this data to improve student engagement in the classroom.

A participant walks away with:

Knowledge of recent SENSE/CCSSE survey results and practical applications of the results to improve student engagement and success

Presenter(s):

Richard Griffiths is an Institutional Analyst in the Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Accountability (OIEA). Dr. Griffiths holds a Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from Kansas State University, and has worked in institutional research and planning at Kansas State University and the Massachusetts Board of Higher Education. His present research interests include survey design, student engagement, psychosocial factors contributing to student success, and effective teaching practices. In addition to working in OIEA Dr Griffiths teaches for both the Psychology Department and Student Development, and is a recipient of the NISOD award for teaching excellence.
