SDD20: Repurposing Kindness: Using Collaboration and Kindness as a Catalyst to Aid Success, Prepare for Practice

This workshop uses a three pillared method to onboard, set classroom expectations, and model professional behaviors in entry level nursing students. By sharing information about resources, setting a classroom culture, and modeling expected behaviors, persistence is improved and ultimately success. Although utilized in the nursing program, this model could be amended for any program to increase student engagement and persistence.

Presenter(s):
Amy Simons has been an Associate Professor in the professional nursing department for 6 years and is a graduate of the same ADN program she now teaches in. She has a passion for teaching and for her students. This passion led to the development of Team Teal 101 which is an onboarding program developed to increase persistence for incoming students in the professional nursing program.
Amy has presented at national and international conferences. She is a life long learner, has participated in ACC academies, and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in nursing education. |
