SDD20: It Still Takes a Village, People: Autism (ASD) and Common Behaviors
Hours: 3
A student paces in the Student Affairs waiting area, muttering under his breath. Another repeatedly corrects an instructor during class lecture. A third follows a classmate around campus, asking for his phone number. Are these behaviors dangerous, rude, or predatory - or the extension of a disability? Why is it important to understand the difference, and how can this knowledge improve your interactions with students? Join us to discuss practical strategies for addressing behaviors commonly associated with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Learn when and where to seek additional support or resources.
A participant walks away with:
1. Practical strategies and resources for classroom management, customer service, and communication. 2. Clarification regarding the role of additional ACC staff and when to involved them.
Presenter(s):
Marie Trzeciak and Martha Dorow have 25 years' combined experience working with students on the Autism Spectrum. They continue to collaborate on meaningful projects designed to increase faculty and staff awareness and improve support for all students with learning differences. |
