Hours: 1.5

ACC Faculty will learn about the benefits of co-requisite courses for students and faculty at ACC. We will provide history on the development of co-requisite partnerships at ACC and discuss the benefits and expectations for students and faculty in these partnerships. Faculty in the Liberal Arts, Humanities and the Social Sciences who would like to partner with the Integrated Reading and Writing Department, will have the opportunity to hear faculty (from several of our current partnerships) discuss their experiences teaching a co-requisite course.

A participant in this workshop will walk away with a better understanding of co-requisite partnerships at ACC and the expectations for faculty who teach these courses. Interested faculty can ask questions, and obtain information on how to become part of a co-requisite partnership in future semesters.

Presenter(s):

Dr. Elizabeth Frye is a professor in the Integrated Reading and Writing Department. She holds a Ph.D. in Reading Education from the University of Virginia and has devoted her career to working with students who are underprepared in reading and writing. Her background in Content Area Reading has enabled her to provide leadership and support to the INRW department as we work to meet the college and state mandate to create corequisite partnerships. In addition to Dr. Frye, other members of the Corequisite Work Group and ACC faculty from various disciplines will share their experiences.
