FCTL: Computerside Chats 2018 (Fall Session 3)

Hours: 1.5

Computerside Chats – Session 3
This is part 3 of a 4-part online learning workshop for ACC faculty. Feel free to join us for as many sessions as you can, but recognize that this series is designed so that you don’t have to attend every session.

Computerside Chats are the ACC book club for faculty where you DON’T HAVE TO READ THE BOOK! Chats for 2018 will focus on the book Small Teaching, by James M. Lang.

In each session, you’ll be introduced to material and then have time to engage in an online conversation with your teaching colleagues about how ACC instructors might adopt some of these new methods in their classrooms. You’ll be able to get the latest evidence-based teaching without having to dig in to the research on your own.

In this session, we’ll focus on chapter 3, covering Interleaving. These are techniques that help students learn better by switching between topics. The more breaks students take in their learning, and the more frequently they hop between topics, the better their memory for the newly learned information.

You will need access to a computer for this event. At event time, join the webex meeting by following this link: CLICK HERE to Join WebEx Meeting

You'll know you're in the right place if you are directed to “FCTL WebEx Room.”

We’ll also email you with additional instructions and the link to join the webex meeting the day of the event. You do NOT need to have a webcam or any other special equipment.

For more information about these events, including a schedule of all the sessions and a copy of the table of contents from this semester’s book, please visit www.austincc.edu/computersidechats.

While reading the book is NOT REQUIRED for these chats, if you are interested, you can check out a print copy of the book from the ACC Library here, an ebook copy of the book here, or purchase a copy here.

This event is brought to you by the The Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning (FCTL) at ACC. If you have any questions, please email FCTL@austincc.edu.
