GA16: Embracing Diversity in Community College

Hours: 1.5

This session will explore the intersection of various parts of our identities and the concepts of power and privilege in regards to working with students. This will help shape your conversations with students from a variety of backgrounds and also help you relate to them on a more personal level.

Participants in this workshop will be able to speak more openly and comfortably about topics related to identity, power, and privilege. Participants will gain a better understanding of the diversity within ACC students, faculty, and staff. Participants will also be provided with resources to continue these conversations regarding diversity in a college setting.

Alisha Cahue has a background in higher education with her master's degree in College Student Development and Counseling from Northeastern University. She has a passion for developing teams and working with student leaders on a variety of topics including Strengths Quest, communication skills, ethical leadership, and global citizenship. She has been fortunate enough to create and facilitate workshops for students, faculty, and staff members at the various universities she has worked for in the past and looks forward to helping further develop the ACC community.
